Are you wondering if your ever going to feel like yourself again? Or having a hard time sorting through all the feedback, books, and blogs to figure out if what you are experiencing as a new parent is normal? I can help.
Becoming a new parent is never short of unexpected challenges. The incorporation of mother, or father, into your identity and the unexpected loss of one's sense of self can be overwhelming. Sleepless nights, challenges getting in sync as new parents, new worries, self-doubt, or a depressed mood can all make taking care of your new baby and other children a challenge.
I offer Individual and couples therapy to help you gain insight and understanding of what you are experiencing, teach you new tools and connect you to resources that will help you get back on track and feeling more like yourself again.
Although many women experience the "baby blues," many mothers and fathers (yes, Fathers too!) do not realize they are experiencing Postpartum Depression, or another Perinatal Mood or Anxiety Disorder (PMAD). Typically, “baby blues” occurs within two to three days after delivery and may last for two to three consecutive weeks. Anything longer than this, during pregnancy or in the first-year post birth, may indicate something more, or simply a need for additional support in the transition to having a new baby. You are not a bad person, mom, dad, or partner if you are experiencing difficulty or symptoms related to the birth of a new baby. Although it can be difficult to ask for help, with the right support and intervention things can get better.
I offer a free consultation so we can talk about what you are experiencing and determine if further assessment, resources, or therapy would be beneficial for you.
We all are encouraged to take birth and baby prep courses, but why not a course that better prepares our relationship, individual identity, mental health? My friend, colleague and fellow mom Alex and I did just that!
